Invisalign® is the face for adult orthodontics!

Nice, straight teeth are a foundation for any beautiful smile. For those whose teeth may be crooked, bent, and not aligned properly, the conventional way of straightening teeth are braces. However, many people (namely adults) will sacrifice the long-term health of their teeth to avoid the use of braces, which are known to significantly dampen one’s smile and overall appearance. And so, Invisalign® was created to address the need for straightening teeth but in a way that was not aesthetically disadvantageous.

What is Invisalign ®?

• Invisalign is a teeth-straightening system utilizing a series of removable aligners (think retainers).
• Aligners are made from clear plastic so they aren’t obvious reminders to others that you’ve got an orthodontic problem.
• Clinical trials have demonstrated the safety and effectiveness of the Invisalign system.
• Invisalign is now a part of most orthodontist’s treatment with more and more dentists getting certified to administer Invisalign treatment.

How Does Invisalign ® Work?

• Invisalign treatment is customized for each individual so treatment will vary from patient to patient. On average, Invisalign treatment will last 9 to 15 months, with 18 to 30 aligners being utilized.
• Aligners are fabricated based on cast and molds and photos of your teeth. These pictures will then be subjected to complex computer 3-D modeling and simulation programs that will determine the best course of treatment.
• The patient will be given a schedule of their treatment where they will be instructed to wear a specific aligner, usually for 2 weeks, before moving onto the next aligner.
• Each aligner is designed to apply controlled force to a specific area of your teeth, slowly ‘pushing’ your teeth back on track.
• Visits to Family First Dentistry & Orthodontics will be scheduled once every six weeks so Dr. Hinckley can make sure everything is progressing correctly.
